Jose Sarabia traditional wood and stone carver. Jose has been carving for nearly fifty years and during that time he has had the privilege of taking part on some of the most exciting projects in restoration that were carried out in the 90’s. some of these projects include Spencer House, Hampton Court Palace, Windsor Palace and Kensington Palace.
Original carving for castings
The work shown on this carving website includes original wood carvings which have used for reproduction castings. Recently Jose has been busy creating original wood carvings for Selby Stone a company that makes artificial stone figures from the carved wood originals
Stone & Marble carving
In recent years Jose has turned his talent to stone carving and marble carving, where he had the opportunity to adapt his wood carving skills to learn stone and marble carving, this included bespoke marble carving for surrounds and decorative panels.
Original and Bespoke Designs
Jose training and background in art has given him the ability to design bespoke carved pieces for his clients and he has been fortunate to have been commissioned to have complete freedom to design a wood carving piece, interpreted from the client’s brief.
Reproduction
The wood carving that Jose has been fortunate to be involved in includes many items of restoration. During the restoration of Spencer House, Jose was able to reproduce some of the most beautiful carvings, including tables, mirrors, over doors and surrounds. He also reproduced wood carvings from the very first carved turkey to a Victorian bench.
Restoration
Restoration is the part of work, which Jose enjoys tremendously as he has to repair something that was carved some hundred years ago, but to such a high standard that no one can ever tell.
Statues
Jose has been commissioned to carve many statues of people, animals, busts, crucifix and trophies. The carved wood statues all vary in size, from small wooden carved birds that can perch on the corner of a table to large freestanding eagles.
Furniture
Jose has been lucky enough to be commissioned to undertake various wood carving projects for the rich and famous. This includes carved chairs for pop stars, bed surrounds for royalty, carved portraits for comedians and bespoke full size carved snooker tables.
